New Orleans rock & roll minimalists Silver Synthetic are back with a new digital single titled “The Door,” available now on all DSPs via Third Man Records. The track is accompanied by an official visualizer – watch HERE.

Silver Synthetic has carved quite a niche for themselves with the release of their full-length debut. Their Out Of The Darkness EP (Third Man) won accolades from the likes of SPIN, BrooklynVegan, CLASH, Glide Magazine and more. The acclaim continued to roll in with the full-length debut from outlets like Consequence, who said that "Around The Bend" was "Perfect for being blasted full volume during a road trip", and Louder than War, who said that their debut is a "near-perfect album to welcome in the spring."

And now, Silver Synthetic declare the beginning of the “Summer of Fuzz” with new single “The Door”.

“Silver Synthetic Declare the Beginning of the ‘Summer of Fuzz’ with new single ‘The Door’”

Actually, they said nothing of the sort. That’s me putting words in their collective mouth, trying to be clever with a phrase that I came up with while listening to their new tune on a recent “damn, it’s getting kinda warm already” night in New Orleans, while drinking a beer on the corner of Lesseps and Burgundy. It’s that time of year in town when the streets start to reek a little bit like piss, sweaty people start to smell like pencil shavings, and you’re getting exercise by trying to stomp a few bold cockroaches into oblivion, trying to hear that satisfying, skin-crawling “snap” when your shoe really connects. It’s kind of a golden time here in town, when nothing is really going on but everything seems possible.

But back to Silver Synthetic and “The Door” and how this all comes together. So Kunal drops me a line and asks me if I’d write a new bio for them because they’re putting out a new song. “Only one song?” I asked. “Yeah. Been busy,” he said. And it’s true—since the band released their first record right when nobody’s was going anywhere or doing anything, they’ve gotten up to a lot: children have been born (congratulations, Kunal and family), European and American tours and festivals have been played, some personnel has been shifted (everybody say hey to new bassist Ben), slow Tuesday shifts at BJ’s bar on that aforementioned corner have been endured (Chris is actually a great bartender), Lucas has been doing whatever mysterious thing Lucas does …life’s been chooglin’ along, in other words. It’s a miracle anything else has been getting done. So a new tune is a victory, and if one is going to cook up a new bio for just one song, that song has gotta be something else.

And “The Door” really is a whammer-jammer.

And that’s not empty hype written to move units. I mean, the last time the phrase “whammer-jammer” moved a unit was probably back in ’78. But still,  “The Door” certainly is one; it captures a particularly New Orleans, but also universal, summer time vibe; it’s a rave up full of longing and hope, a piece of (forgive me) shimmering jangle pop that rides that knife edge between groovy romance and sunrise partyin’, with a touch of the Paisley Underground on its tongue and the bulge from the cover of Transformer down its pants. At least that’s my first impression.

BUT: until a new Silver Synthetic album is ready, this anthem for the undeclared Summer of Fuzz will do nicely. Add it to your pool party playlist, put it on a mix for your sweetheart, jam it on your wireless speakers as you ride your bike into the humid night, hoping to find a little love and maybe some clean drugs. You know: trying to get to and through “the door” we’re all looking for.

Your pal,

Gabe Soria

PS: Now put out another album already.

PPS: Silver Synthetic is Chris Lyons, Kunal Prakash, Lucas Bogner and Ben Jones. “The Door” was recorded at Marigny Studios and engineered by Adam Keil, with additional recording in Los Angeles. It was mixed by our boy Danny Clifton (everybody go listen to Room Thirteen NOW) at Pulp Arts in Gainesville, FL, and mastered by Bill Skibbe at Third Man Mastering.
