Sunday, July 3rd: CHAIN & THE GANG: THEY GOT FANGS

Doors 7, Show 8pm, $7

In the space between gospel and garage, where rockers and soulsters mingle slick and chill quick, we have but one Ian Svenious. He’s long been a fixture in American music and a pillar of the Washington D.C. punk scene with storied tenures in Nation of UlyssesThe Make-UpWeird War and, currently, Chain & The Gang who touts one the best live shows today bar none. Beyond that, he splits leftover time between hosting Soft Focus and writing, making it a point to actually reflect on the politics of life, a life in politics, and what equitable rock ‘n’ roll culture even amounts to in 2016. Not to miss! Chain & The Gang will perform in the Blue Room on July 3, 2016.

Thursday, July 7th: VIVA L'AMERICAN DEATH RAY MUSIC

Doors 7, Show 8pm, $7

They come bearing gifts, testing softly the boundaries of rock ‘n’ soul, confrontationally tender, pure sweat and a well-kept secret. They come to us all the way from some sunburnt, concussed section of Memphis, TN. Founded in the late 90s by Nick Ray, will pass through Nashville for the first time in four years. Their sound is tough to pin down, almost fleeting, with scraps of no-wave, a belch of punk storytelling, and Krautrock momentum. Viva L’American Death Ray Music will perform in the Blue Room on July 7, 2016. Savoy Motel will lead the charge and open the show. If you talk yourself into staying home, you’re somebody else’s problem.

Tuesday July 12th: Peripheral Visions 05: The Italian Connection (aka Manhunt)

Doors 7pm, Film 8pm, $10/$8 Belcourt Members

"The Godfather wants revenge! The contracts are out. The hitmen gather. All hell explodes in the underworld!"

Small-time pimp Luca Canali (Mario Adorf) is implicated in the disappearance of a heroin shipment between New York and Italy in a frameup by the Milanese mob to cover their indiscretions. Two American hit men (Henry Silva and Woody Strode) are sent to assassinate Canali, but he won’t go down without fighting tooth, nail, and head. The second part in a disconnected trilogy of action films set in Milan's criminal underworld from respected poliziotteschi* auteur Fernando Di Leo, THE ITALIAN CONNECTION pulls absolutely zero punches (or headbutts) in this nonstop, no-one-is-safe, race to the death.

*Italian crime films which reached their peak popularity in the 70s

Saturday, July 16th, July 23rd: Southern Girls Rock Camp/Tennessee Teens Rock Camp Summer Showcases

Doors 3pm, Show 3:30pm, $10 Donation

We've long been a fan and a champion of Yeah! (Youth Empowerment Through Arts & Humanities, Inc.) and their wonderful Summer music programs for Middle Tennessee youth. Their flagship Summer camps, Southern Girls Rock Camp and Tennessee Teens Rock Camp, held in both Nashville and Murfreesboro are safe spaces where students learn to play music and build self-assurance, creatively, and a love for collaboration along the way. YEAH! designs their camps (which are run and taught by some of Nashville's finest folks and talented musicians) to "allow campers (regardless of race, class, gender expression, or creed) the freedom of expression and exploration through music and performance. In doing so, these campers are empowered to find their own voice and their own sound without creative boundaries or inhibitions." For the 2016 season, Third Man Records will host the end-of-session Showcases in the Blue Room. We can't wait to hear what these inspired artists have worked up for us! The entry fee, a $10 donation, goes towards providing scholarships for students enrolled in the program. Please join us in supporting these budding musicians!

Thursday, July 21st: Light + Sound Machine Presents: Los Sures + bonus film TBA

Doors 7pm, Film 8pm, $10/$8 Belcourt Members

In the late 70s and early 80s, Los Sures was one of the poorest neighborhoods in New York City. In fact, it had been called the worst ghetto in America. Diego Echeverria’s film skillfully represents the challenges of it's time: drugs, gang violence, crime, abandoned real estate, racial tension, single-parent homes, and inadequate local resources. The complex portrait also celebrates the vitality of this largely Puerto Rican and Dominican community, showing the strength of their culture, their creativity, and their determination to overcome a desperate situation. Beautifully restored just in time for the 30th anniversary of the premiere at the New York Film Festival, this documentary is a priceless piece of New York City history.
